WHAT I HAVE LEARNED…..

I had my own struggle with losing weight. To be honest I struggle every day but this time it’s a different struggle. I struggle to maintain my weight, maintain my healthy lifestyle and maintain my progress of not losing weight but toning and getting stronger. Regardless, of what our struggle is we all struggle. I struggle to drink my water everyday, to not pick up that soda and to walk away from the snickers. I have worked so hard to get my body to where it is and it’s so hard when people want the same results but don’t want to work for it.

What I have learned this far in my coaching career is that you can’t make anyone lose weight, or get healthy. You can give them all the tools to be successful and to lose weight but if there is no real motivation well then there will be no real results. As a coach I can just be here for them when they are really ready for change and help.

I work at the gym of course because I am a Zumba instructor but it’s amazing how you see the same people at the gym, over and over! These are the people who keep me motivated, these are the people who has seen change and craves more change! I am learning and will still learn probably each day but I see everyday as a new opportunity.

STAYING ON TRACK DURING THE HOLIDAYS

Staying on track is extremely hard and it takes dedication to avoid those cookie, pies and holiday potlucks at your job. Is it possible? Yes! I did it last year! If you have a goal in sight there is no stopping you no matter what holiday it is. You can still lose that weight that you want. I missed out on my Starbucks holiday drinks, didn’t have pie and avoiding two potlucks at my job.

This year is a little different because I have exceeded my goal and I now have to tools to get me through the holidays without any guilt.

  1. EAT SWEET TREATS- In moderation, It’s all about moderation! It is ok to splurge and I like to splurge but I also make sure it is set in my mind that I can’t undo all of my work and progress because it is easy to get put in that mind frame.
  2. POSITIVE EFFORTS- Make an effort to have at least one consistent healthy meal. Every morning I have my Shakeology drink and I always make sure no matter what I plan on eating for that day or doing that day I know I am getting my Superfoods. Also load up on your veggies, if you have to have that bad food at least load up on your veggies and make your plate colorful!
  3. TAKE THAT WALK- Keep your work out routine. If you are visiting family and can’t keep up with going to a gym, go for a walk. I love evening walks right after dinner. So take that walk. Burn some calories and make it fun, have the kids or family join you!

Staying on track is hard but you can do it! Always stay focused on your goal that you have set for yourself. This holiday season I am committed to working out everyday with some rest days and continue to transform myself.

BEACHBODY COACH

Things have gotten a little complicated for me lately. I have gained 5lbs and some inches back in my waist. Well the last time I stepped on the scale thats what it said.

A few weeks ago I took the step to become a BeachBody. Many people may ask why? But my answer is so simple. It’s because I need accountability. I started working at the gym teaching Zumba since September. Now that people are coming to me for their weight loss goal my question is who will hold me accountable. I joined because I need accountability that I wasn’t getting anywhere else. This is something new that I am trying and I want you to keep me accountable while I go through this journey!

I have fallen off the wagon I call it. I no longer eat the way I should have but I am seeing some positives through this entire situation.

No Longer do I beat myself up for the weight I am gaining. I look at each day as a new day and I know I can turn that weight around and lose it—- because I am WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR!

It seems like everyone is detoxing nowadays, from either TV, social media or the stuff they are putting in their body. Halloween is right around the corner and lets just say everyone in my house is required to detox a week after!

  1. Eat a diet with ripe fruits, green leafy veggies- When you are detoxing your body naturally you always want to increase your intake with fruits and veggies. Also, lemons contain Vitamin C & some potassium, which if your immune system is like mine well anything can help. So don’t feel bad asking for extra lemons on the side to go with your water when you are out at a restaurant.

3. Get adequate amount of sleep- Sleeping puts your body into a repair mode. People that don’t get at least 7 hours of sleep have a high percentage of losing body fat. Sleep and your metabolism is controlled by the same part of the brain. When you are sleepy  a certain hormones is triggered and that increases appetite.

MOMMY MOTIVATION SERIES: MEET DE BOLTON

Need some motivation on this Monday?! Look no further! I met De Bolton when I was in the process of developing this series and what really wowed me was not only her results but how she was apart of the online community. For me the online community was what really helped me especially on those days I wanted to eat an entire pizza by myself.

I am happy to introduce De Bolton and don’t forget to check her blog out! She is super inspiring and reminds us how amazing us women are!

 

Tell me a little about yourself?

I am the best friend and wife to my husband first for almost 14 years. Mother to three lil diva’s ages 12, 8 and 2. I am a faith-based fitness blogger and brand ambassador. I am a big time fitness enthusiast which was not always the case. I love being active trying new things and motivating others trying to do the same. The high school cheerleader in me never left and instead of routing for my home team I now route for all those wanting to make a difference in their life.

 

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

Three– 12, 8 and 2

 

Were you active before you had kids? If so what activities did you do regularly?

I was not my husband would take them outside to play and go to the park. Now I am playing on the playground with them. Racing them, my two older girls and I usually do a park play/workout once a week and it’s been a lot of fun.

 

Tell me about your weight struggle?

I never had a struggle until I got pregnant with my lil diva’s. That was the problem because I never had to workout or eat right to stay thin I never found the value of it. As a child my parents also used exercise as our punishment. Instead of being grounded we would have to hold a plank until my parents said stop or a wall sit, do 200 jumping jacks things like that. I know my parents had good intentions but it taught my siblings and I that exercise was punishment for bad behavior. I met my husband who was a personal trainer at the time and never saw his interest in working out. I was also a drive thru junkie and would hop from drive thru to drive thru all day long: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. I gained 95 lbs when I was pregnant with my first and never experience weight gain expected it to fall off after I had her and that was not the case. It was actually the opposite I gained more and learned of the struggle of weight loss. I then had my second daughter. I was fortunate to have a personal trainer and nutritionist throughout my pregnancy. At seven and half months pregnant I decided to “save” my money and do the last month and a half on my own. Needless, to say I gained 85 lbs with my second daughter. I got on the exercise train earlier with my second daughter and lost 105 lbs and maintained that for 6 years until I got pregnant with my third. The pregnancy of my third daughter was not a good time for my husband and I. Due to lay offs, lack of work, financial instability we became homeless. I learned I was pregnant three weeks after we lost our home. Ten weeks into my pregnancy I learned I was carrying twins and eleven weeks I had lost a twin. I fell into a deep depression coupled with bed rest I began to eat to self-soothe. I only gained 75 lbs. (I know only? But to me that was a little) after I had my daughter we were in a better state. We had moved into our new home when I was seven month pregnant, job stability and we had a better life situation. I still was depressed, anxious and sedentary. I gained another 20lbs and was discouraged at trying to lose weight. I then found an amazing Online Trainer and Community and it was exactly what I needed at the time. I was lonely as a mom, unhappy, depressed and I needed to find something that worked. I did and I began this last weight loss journey. I have found so much more than what I signed up for and now will be teaching others to have hope, try hard and be resilient too.
What was your biggest insecurity after having your kids about your self image?
The whole thing, the lack of privacy, being present, getting my act together. Particularly, my weight gain. I did not feel like I was in the right body. I felt like I was in my old, thin, could eat anything I want and not gain a pound body and then would get a glimpse in my reflection and be shocked at the lack of progress and the image didn’t match the one in my head.
What was your turning point when you knew you had to lose weight and get healthier?
Feeling like an alien in my own skin, hating my reflections all of those things were not me. I knew from past weight loss the only thing that was going to change my body was me and I had to stop with the excuses and do something uncomfortable, hard and different. It was really when my youngest daughter was 14 months and someone asked me “When are you due?” I was like, “Oh NO! I’ve got to change this, NOW!”

Tell me about your work out routine?

I typically workout 6 days a week. 5 being HIIT training and one being an active rest which is about an hour of cardio. It used to be early morning but lately it has been late at night after my daughters go to sleep. I am working on changing it back to daytime hours because my sleeps has been thrown completely off.

 

Tell me about your eating routine?

I intermittent fast 4-5 days a week. I usually eat every 3 hours like clock work and stick to protein and produce for my meals. Usually having grains like quinoa, oatmeal and organic corn after workouts before noon on non fasting days.

 

What exercises did you incorporate into your weight loss?

Functional Exercise training is my favorite, HIIT, weight lifting, and metabolic conditioning.

 

What was the biggest obstacle you faced when losing weight? Did you ever gain the weight back?

Plateus STINK!!! They can frustrate you but I learned that they are needed to gauge your progress and have you challenge yourself. So far, I have not gained any weight back still steadily losing it and 20 lbs away from my prebaby state.

 

What is the best advice you can give to Mommies out there that are struggling to lose weight or even get motivated?

Find you Why? It has to be something more than I want to look good. It has to be more than I want to be healthy. It has to be something that on those days you don’t want to get up you remember, “Oh I have to because of this.” It has to be something that gets you over that hurdle. Looking good is something that you can get comfortable with “Looking good enough.” Getting healthy is all relative and has lots of rooms for excuse but I want to be able to run a mile with my child or set an example for my daughters that taking care of their body, eating right and being healthy is important.Or, I know there watching so I need to show up.” Whatever it is that is going to get you passed that “I don’t want to today.” That is your why? It’s may take days or weeks but when you define it, it will make the difference between those who succeed and those who quit.

 

What helped you on your journey of weight loss?

Support-the online community that I had has been probably 50% of the reason I succeeded. Encouraging, loving women who want to see me succeed is amazing and I think key to weight los.

 

What is your motto?

God First, witness through fitness and glorifying God by living a healthy lifestyle fueled by faith. (If that is too religious which I understand) or FaithFueled™ is a lifestyle!

WORK OUT WITH RYDERWEAR!

I live by the motto if you look your best, you feel your best and that goes for even when your at the gym. Many people may not agree with me but I feel I at least need lipgloss or mascara before I  work out. Typically I get off of work, change into my workout clothes and will work out for an hour about 3 times a week and then I teach Zumba on Saturdays so to say I live in gym clothes would be an understatement. There are only certain leggings I can wear that are not only are comfy when working out but I don’t have to worry about them rising when doing lifts and squats. I always look for cute workout clothes and I finally found a brand that provides not only comfy workout clothes but they are cute.

 

When it comes to sports bras it’s so hard finding a good bra that doesn’t make you feel like you have no chest! When I first started my journey to a healthier and more active lifestyle  I knew I needed something to hold me accountable. I needed something that would push me and something I could look at everyday with my goal in mind.

I have honestly bought many devices that counted my steps but just like many diets I have tried it never lasted! I couldn’t be more happier about the decision to purchase the device and meet all of my fitness goals. I have now encouraged a lot of my friends to purchase the device as they start on their fitness journey. The Fitbit lets you start challenges with people in your network/friends like who can get the most steps in during the week. Many times if I am behind I will make it a goal to hit the treadmill just to run so I can catch up.
