Join A Co-op

Want to eat fresh & local?Join a co-op! This is such a great way to do both and save money all in one.

I have been doing a Co-op for about a month now and I’m not sure what I would do if I didn’t have it in my life. I knew when I heard about this group I had to take advantage of this because lets be honest I would be dumb to let this pass me up. I not only work full time, but I am a mom of 2 and a blogger on the side so I had to find something that works for me and my family.

Being a member of a co-op is only good! There are so many benefits to being in a cooperative group so I broke it down to 4 reason why you shouldn’t let this pass you!

  1. Veggies with every meal. Being apart of a co-op has mad me incorporate more veggies and fruits in my meals. I find myself cooking with all of my veggies and creating different meals with the veggies that I have in my refrigerator.  I feel like I have to cook every veggie in my refrigerator  because in a co-op you get so much veggies and fruits that you feel bad if they go bad.
  2. Keep it local. The veggies and fruits are usually grown by local farmers, which makes it that much better. I am all about supporting small businesses and shopping local to keep the money in my community.
  3. Saving money. I get an entire basket of fruits and veggies for only $20. If you have been to the grocery store lately then you know how cheap that is because I probably spend $40 a week just on my morning smoothie stuff.
  4. Healthy family. I not only make my 8 month old baby food with the fresh fruits and veggies but I also google different creative recipes that my picky 3 year old will eat. He loves pizza so I cut up all of the veggies and made a veggie pizza and on the side we had a salad! That’s a win in my house. My husband even complimented me on how I am using the co-op to make our family that much more healthier.

If you are looking for a co-op to join in the midlands area (South Carolina)  there are two great co-ops that I know of. If you are not in my area google a co-op in your area or search on Facebook.

  1. Now that the weather is warmer it is much easier to shop and eat locally. Can not wait to get out to the farmers markets and get some produce! I always find that the flavours are so much richer…I have no idea how they manage that but I wish they would teach me!

  2. We don’t really have co-ops here where I live, but I am lucky enough to have a fresh market literally around the corner from my apartment. It makes it very easy to have fresh food and veggies for every meal. I keep very little food in the fridge anymore, I just go buy what I need when I need it.

  3. Buying from our local CSA programs are great support for our local farmers and our own health! Not only do we know our farmers and their methods for handling products, but we find ourselves eating foods I may not typically add to our menu!

  4. I love coops for all the reasons you listed. I also love that we get to eat things I wouldn’t have normally bought myself (even though I’m very adventurous when it comes to trying new fruits and veggies.

  5. I love use fresh produce when cooking. This time of year is perfect to do exactly that. I have been using a lot of asparagus and berries lately.

  6. We sometimes go to the Farmer’s market, but I will have to look into a local co-op. It sounds like a much better way to get fruits and veggies 🙂

  7. I love our co-op! It is my favorite place to shop (besides the farmers’ market). We try to grow a lot of our own food too, local is delicious!

  8. Co-ops are wonderful! None delivered at our last house, but I’m sure some deliver to my husband’s office building now. We should really look into it. We’ve been going to the local farmer’s market on the weekends, but this is much less work. The downside would be meal planning. I like to know what I’m getting beforehand.

  10. I’ve always wondered about joining a co-op, and its benefits. We have one that is well known around here, and I didn’t know you could get so many veggies and fruits like that.
