MOMMY MOTIVATION SERIES: MEET DE BOLTON

Need some motivation on this Monday?! Look no further! I met De Bolton when I was in the process of developing this series and what really wowed me was not only her results but how she was apart of the online community. For me the online community was what really helped me especially on those days I wanted to eat an entire pizza by myself.

I am happy to introduce De Bolton and don’t forget to check her blog out! She is super inspiring and reminds us how amazing us women are!

Tell me a little about yourself?

I am the best friend and wife to my husband first for almost 14 years. Mother to three lil diva’s ages 12, 8 and 2. I am a faith-based fitness blogger and brand ambassador. I am a big time fitness enthusiast which was not always the case. I love being active trying new things and motivating others trying to do the same. The high school cheerleader in me never left and instead of routing for my home team I now route for all those wanting to make a difference in their life.

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

Three– 12, 8 and 2

Were you active before you had kids? If so what activities did you do regularly?

I was not my husband would take them outside to play and go to the park. Now I am playing on the playground with them. Racing them, my two older girls and I usually do a park play/workout once a week and it’s been a lot of fun.

Tell me about your weight struggle?

I never had a struggle until I got pregnant with my lil diva’s. That was the problem because I never had to workout or eat right to stay thin I never found the value of it. As a child my parents also used exercise as our punishment. Instead of being grounded we would have to hold a plank until my parents said stop or a wall sit, do 200 jumping jacks things like that. I know my parents had good intentions but it taught my siblings and I that exercise was punishment for bad behavior. I met my husband who was a personal trainer at the time and never saw his interest in working out. I was also a drive thru junkie and would hop from drive thru to drive thru all day long: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. I gained 95 lbs when I was pregnant with my first and never experience weight gain expected it to fall off after I had her and that was not the case. It was actually the opposite I gained more and learned of the struggle of weight loss. I then had my second daughter. I was fortunate to have a personal trainer and nutritionist throughout my pregnancy. At seven and half months pregnant I decided to “save” my money and do the last month and a half on my own. Needless, to say I gained 85 lbs with my second daughter. I got on the exercise train earlier with my second daughter and lost 105 lbs and maintained that for 6 years until I got pregnant with my third. The pregnancy of my third daughter was not a good time for my husband and I. Due to lay offs, lack of work, financial instability we became homeless. I learned I was pregnant three weeks after we lost our home. Ten weeks into my pregnancy I learned I was carrying twins and eleven weeks I had lost a twin. I fell into a deep depression coupled with bed rest I began to eat to self-soothe. I only gained 75 lbs. (I know only? But to me that was a little) after I had my daughter we were in a better state. We had moved into our new home when I was seven month pregnant, job stability and we had a better life situation. I still was depressed, anxious and sedentary. I gained another 20lbs and was discouraged at trying to lose weight. I then found an amazing Online Trainer and Community and it was exactly what I needed at the time. I was lonely as a mom, unhappy, depressed and I needed to find something that worked. I did and I began this last weight loss journey. I have found so much more than what I signed up for and now will be teaching others to have hope, try hard and be resilient too.
What was your biggest insecurity after having your kids about your self image?
The whole thing, the lack of privacy, being present, getting my act together. Particularly, my weight gain. I did not feel like I was in the right body. I felt like I was in my old, thin, could eat anything I want and not gain a pound body and then would get a glimpse in my reflection and be shocked at the lack of progress and the image didn’t match the one in my head.
What was your turning point when you knew you had to lose weight and get healthier?
Feeling like an alien in my own skin, hating my reflections all of those things were not me. I knew from past weight loss the only thing that was going to change my body was me and I had to stop with the excuses and do something uncomfortable, hard and different. It was really when my youngest daughter was 14 months and someone asked me “When are you due?” I was like, “Oh NO! I’ve got to change this, NOW!”
mommy-motivation-Debolton

Tell me about your work out routine?

I typically workout 6 days a week. 5 being HIIT training and one being an active rest which is about an hour of cardio. It used to be early morning but lately it has been late at night after my daughters go to sleep. I am working on changing it back to daytime hours because my sleeps has been thrown completely off.

Tell me about your eating routine?

I intermittent fast 4-5 days a week. I usually eat every 3 hours like clock work and stick to protein and produce for my meals. Usually having grains like quinoa, oatmeal and organic corn after workouts before noon on non fasting days.

What exercises did you incorporate into your weight loss?

Functional Exercise training is my favorite, HIIT, weight lifting, and metabolic conditioning.

What was the biggest obstacle you faced when losing weight? Did you ever gain the weight back?

Plateus STINK!!! They can frustrate you but I learned that they are needed to gauge your progress and have you challenge yourself. So far, I have not gained any weight back still steadily losing it and 20 lbs away from my prebaby state.

What is the best advice you can give to Mommies out there that are struggling to lose weight or even get motivated?

Find you Why? It has to be something more than I want to look good. It has to be more than I want to be healthy. It has to be something that on those days you don’t want to get up you remember, “Oh I have to because of this.” It has to be something that gets you over that hurdle. Looking good is something that you can get comfortable with “Looking good enough.” Getting healthy is all relative and has lots of rooms for excuse but I want to be able to run a mile with my child or set an example for my daughters that taking care of their body, eating right and being healthy is important.Or, I know there watching so I need to show up.” Whatever it is that is going to get you passed that “I don’t want to today.” That is your why? It’s may take days or weeks but when you define it, it will make the difference between those who succeed and those who quit.

What helped you on your journey of weight loss?

Support-the online community that I had has been probably 50% of the reason I succeeded. Encouraging, loving women who want to see me succeed is amazing and I think key to weight los.

What is your motto?

God First, witness through fitness and glorifying God by living a healthy lifestyle fueled by faith. (If that is too religious which I understand) or FaithFueled™ is a lifestyle!

WORK OUT WITH RYDERWEAR!

I live by the motto if you look your best, you feel your best and that goes for even when your at the gym. Many people may not agree with me but I feel I at least need lipgloss or mascara before I  work out. Im not saying you have to go to the gym with a face full of make up or your hair done up because my hair is usually in a messy bun or an upside down pineapple.ryderwear-womens-bra

Typically I get off of work, change into my workout clothes and will work out for an hour about 3 times a week and then I teach Zumba on Saturdays so to say I live in gym clothes would be an understatement. There are only certain leggings I can wear that are not only are comfy when working out but I don’t have to worry about them rising when doing lifts and squats. I always look for cute workout clothes and I finally found a brand that provides not only comfy workout clothes but they are cute.

When it comes to sports bras it’s so hard finding a good bra that doesn’t make you feel like you have no chest! Ryderwear push up crop black sports bra ( what I am wearing) give you great support for any type of exercise. I danced for 90 minutes during Zumba class and the girls were nice and secure! The bra is made with performance fabric with 4 way stretch, breathable padding and body wick cool and dry material.

As soon as I went into the gym with these #LIFTSQUAT tights everyone complimented me! These are comfortable and are cute which is what I love! Also these shoes the Ladies D-Maks are perfect for squats. The flat soles that the shoes have allow your feet to be planted firmly on the ground which are perfect for squats.

ohchicmom-ryderwear-clothes

I wish I could say what was my favorite but my shirt says it all— Muscles and Mascara! No I am not being paid to post about their products but I think not only are they perfect for people like me that loves good workout clothes and that are fashionable. Check them out www.ryderwear.com!

MOMMY MOTIVATION SERIES: MEET MEREDITH

meredith-mommyinleggings-motivation

Meet Meredith Breitenbach over at Mommy in Leggings. I had the pleasure of getting to know her and to be honest after interviewing her I teared up a little. Not because I’m hormonal but because her response about why she wanted to lose weight is similar to the reason I needed to get health. Learn how she took back control of her body and looks amazing! Meet Meredith!

Tell me a little about yourself?

I’m a 29-year-old first time mommy to a beautiful baby girl, who is just about 5 months old. My husband, daughter and I live in Minnesota with a mini zoo of 4 dogs, 2 cats and 2 hedgehogs. We’re huge animal lovers, spend a lot of time outdoors hiking, camping and fishing, and love traveling and new adventures!

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

1 child, a daughter who is 5 months.

Were you active before you had kids? If so what activities did you do regularly? (Biking, Running, Etc.)

Semi active, but not intense. I totally let myself go during pregnancy and gained 46 pounds!!!!

mommy-motivation-series-meredith

Tell me about your weight struggle?

I’ve always struggled with my weight. I’m 5’9″, and have always thought of myself as bigger. I had always wanted to be some cute little petite blonde girl with perfect hair and makeup, graceful and delicate. And I’m NONE of those things. But I’m finally, now in my third decade of life, ok with this. I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to love who I was! I gained 46 pounds when I got pregnant, and it was all due to unhealthy eating. I didn’t necessarily crave foods, but I just wanted what was easy and delicious.

What was your biggest insecurity after having your kid(s) about your self image?

Probably my cellulite and stretch marks, but the weight loss has helped with cellulite, and I don’t care about my stretch marks as much anymore (hey, they’re proof my body changed in every way it could to carry my amazing daughter!).

What was your turning point when you knew you had to lose weight and get healthier?

When I had a daughter, and I knew I never wanted her to ever hear me say something negative about my body, and then feel the same about hers. I never want her to think she’s anything but absolutely perfect in every way, regardless of what shape she is. I don’t want to her see ads in a magazine and think “I want to be that thin” or “why am I not that pretty?” I want her to always love herself, and that begins with me loving my own body first.

Tell me about your work out routine?

After I had my daughter and was cleared for exercise, I started running a little bit here and there. When it got too hot for me in the summer months, I ran on the elliptical inside. Over the past month, my exercise routine has waned, and I need to get back into it…but I’ve stayed completely faithful to my new way of eating, and the pounds keep falling off.

Tell me about your eating routine?

I started eating foods I perceived to be “healthy” after my daughter was born: granola bars, oatmeal, etc. The weight came off, but slowly. Then, two of our friends introduced my husband and me to the Ketogenic Diet, which is a low carb, high fat, moderate protein diet. Yes–you read that right. HIGH FAT! The diet was developed in the 1920’s to help children with epilepsy. It has since been known to help people with diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and other diseases. This diet puts your body into a state of Ketosis–a process in which your body doesn’t have enough energy from carbohydrates to burn energy, so it turns to the high amount of fat to burn as fuel instead.

What exercises did you incorporate into your weight loss?

I’ve done very little exercise compared to the amount of weight I’ve lost (57lbs total so far). I do know I need to become more dedicated to exercise though!

The biggest obstacle you faced when losing weight? Did you ever gain the weight back?

The biggest obstacle was completely changing how I ate. If someone told me 6 months ago that I wouldn’t be eating bread or sugar (carbs!!) I would have laughed at them. It’s a hard diet to start, but the rewards are so amazing that it’s hard to stop! I haven’t gained any weight back, and the pounds are still coming off. I highly doubt I’ll ever go back to my previous way of eating. I feel SO great on this diet–always energetic (and that’s saying a lot with an infant and not getting much sleep!!), not hungry nearly as much as I used to be, and my mind feels sharper as well! It truly has become a way of life for me, and I could never say that about any other diet I’ve ever tried.

What is the best advice you can give to Mommies out there that are struggling to lose weight or even get motivated?

Really focus on your motivation–it doesn’t matter what that motivation is. Child? Family? High School reunion? Bikini? Whenever you’re feeling down, focus intently on the reason you started. Ultimately the reason you start, has to be strong enough for you to keep going. Every other time I’ve tried to maintain a diet, my motivation wasn’t strong enough. Now, if I ever feel like I’m struggling, I think of my daughter and tell myself that I’m doing this for her–so that if I can feel good in my own skin, I can help her to always feel good in her own. Confidence is such an enormous thing for little girls, and I want my daughter to always have confidence in herself, and never look in the mirror and think she’s flawed.

What helped you on your journey of weight loss?(friends, family, support groups)

My husband started eating Keto with me (he lost 20lbs!!!!), and also the support from my Instagram Keto Friends was amazing. I started an IG handle only for my Keto meals, and to follow Keto accounts, called @mamabear.eatsketo. It’s an outlet for me to see meals as inspiration, share my successes, and help and be helped by others. Taking before and after pics has also been super inspirational to me. I feel stupid taking them, but then I see the difference and can’t believe how far I’ve come. It makes me feel proud of myself that I’ve continued to make these healthy changes, and my body is responding well to it!

What is your motto?

If you never try, you’ll never know what could be.

OVERNIGHT STEEL CUT OATS

overnight-steel-cut-oats

Overnight Steel Cut Oats are the best thing man has created! This is great for meal preps because you can make it on Sunday and it still be yummy by the end of the week! Also you can add just about anything you want and it will still taste amazing.

Whats the difference between Steel Cut Oats vs Old Fashion Oats? Steel Cut Oats are less processed than Old Fashion Oats. The calorie count is the same and the protein count is also the same. Steel cut oats take longer to cook and has zero grams of sugar!

OVERNIGHT STEEL CUT OATS

Mommy Motivation Series

Today starts our new series! For the next couple of months I will feature moms that I want my readers to “meet”. Motivation and family are two major factors that played into these women’s life. These moms made their healthy and weight loss important and a priority in their life along with running a household.

I wanted to start this for many reason but because I love having stories I can give to my readers, to inspire you that you can do it. We are all busy but losing weight is 50 % prepping and planning and 50% doing it!I have clients that I train to help lose weight. I sit down with them, we come up with meal plans and workout plans. To say one meal plan and one work out plan works for all is silly. Everyone is different, everyone is built differently and real trainers know that. The main excuse I hear is “not enough time” but these mommies featured here have beat all odds. Meet our first Mommy……. Me!

Tell me a little about yourself?

I am a Marketing Sales Manager by Day, Zumba instructor by night. I have two beautiful kids that are exact opposite of each other and my husband is my best friend. My life is not perfect but it’s my life and I wouldn’t change it!

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

3 year old boy and 1 year old girl!

Were you active before you had kids? If so what activities did you do regularly? (Biking, Running, Etc.)

I was not active at all. Walking back and fourth to and from the car was about it. I did do the Color Run but I walked it LOL!

Tell me about your weight struggle?

I never struggled with my weight until I went to college. Instead of gaining the freshman 15 I gained the freshman 45! My eating was terrible and I am grateful I am still alive thats how horrible my eating was!

What was your biggest insecurity after having your kid(s) about your self image?

My entire body changed. My body now has stretch marks and my hips were bigger right along with my stomach. The biggest insecurity I had was gaining 60lbs and not being use to being so big. I am a small girl, 5’2 and petite and I know my body wasn’t made to be big!

What was your turning point when you knew you had to lose weight and get healthier?

I looked in the mirror right after I had my daughter and knew I was so unhappy and something had to change. I told my husband I wanted to lose weight but he heard that so many times he just blew me off. He was over my “fad” diets and my “working out” and not seeing any results.

When I compare these side by side I am truly amazed at how far I have come! The picture last year was one month postpartum. I just had a baby, was breastfeeding and potty training my 2 year old on this very day! Today I am taking care of my mind, body and soul! I am a Zumba instructor and now taking my certification to become a personal trainer. #transformationtuesday #fitmom #zumba #zumbainstructor #zin #fit #strongissexy #ohchicmom #fitspiration #fitmomsofig

Tell me about your work out routine?

I would work out minimum of 3 days a week. I found my love for Zumba and attended 2 classes a week and one day I would do weights!

Tell me about your eating routine?

I learned to meal prep! I cut out a lot but not all sugars and carbs!

What exercises did you incorporate into your weight loss?

Zumba and weight lifting!

The biggest obstacle you faced when losing weight? Did you ever gain the weight back?

Curving the craving of sweets. I have a chronic sweet tooth and I love anything chocolate!

What is the best advice you can give to Mommies out there that are struggling to lose weight or even get motivated?

Find your motivation! Go for it. Put a picture in your phone of what you want to look like. Look at that picture the days you don’t want to go to the gym!

What helped you on your journey of weight loss?(friends, family, support groups)

My husband pushed me. Days I wanted to sit on the couch he made me get up! Now he doesn’t have to! I am thankful at how supportive he was thought the process.

What is your motto?

“Dance like today is your last day living”

Groupon + Fitness Devices= Steal

(This is a sponsored post. All opinions are mine.)

When I first started my journey to a healthier and more active lifestyle  I knew I needed something to hold me accountable. I needed something that would push me and something I could look at everyday with my goal in mind.

After doing my research I knew I wanted to buy a Fitbit. After always hearing such wonderful things about everything it had to offer and the best part was that it connects to your phone. I have honestly bought many devices that counted my steps but just like many diets I have tried it never lasted! The fit bit connects to your iPhone, Android or Windows phone with an app. It not only tracks your steps but it connects to your My Fitness Pal account and it counts your calories.  I found this device everything I was looking for but the only real problem was the Fitbit was not in my budget.

groupon-fitbit-device

There are different types of Fitbits for different prices! Like always, Groupon has it for a steal! The normal $99.99 device, you can get it on Groupon for $59.99! There are so many other Fitbit devices that are for almost half off!

I couldn’t be more happier about the decision to purchase the device and meet all of my fitness goals. I have now encouraged a lot of my friends to purchase the device as they start on their fitness journey. The Fitbit lets you start challenges with people in your network/friends like who can get the most steps in during the week. Many times if I am behind I will make it a goal to hit the treadmill just to run so I can catch up.

Make sure to check out all of the great things Groupon has to offer you on your fitness journey like shoes from Foot Locker!

MONDAY MOTIVATION

QUOTES-MOTIVATION-FITNESS

It’s a Monday! All things that could go wrong have went wrong. From not getting any sleep all weekend and it finally catching up to me, even this concealer can’t cover up everything I went through this weekend.

My life has been a wreck this weekend. It started with the toddler getting a fever at daycare, which means she had to get picked up. That turned into a crying, whining, disaster 1 year old not wanting to sleep, eat or play. She just wanted mommy and it was so hard because my 3 year old couldn’t understand why I couldn’t play with him. My hubby had to work all weekend, which meant it was just me and the kids!

Guess what?! I will still be in the gym today after work, I am up early writing this post……. I am motivated and determined to get strong. Working out doesn’t only make me strong physically but mentally. I feel empowered when I am lifting those weights and doing those reps. It is something about lifting and pushing your body to lengths you never thought you would make it.

I don’t work out to be skinny. I work out to be strong. Physically and mentally!

What is your motivation? Why do you hit the gym?

4 INGREDIENTS THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR PROTEIN SHAKE

It taste like Reese's Peanut Butter #proteinshake #chocolateforbreakfast @eas

Having a protein shake is part of my morning like brushing my teeth (well besides coffee). When I first started my journey to get healthy, I wasn’t sure if I could hack drinking a protein shake all the time.

All of the protein shakes, no matter how expensive or cheap you can still taste the protein.  I am a Chocolate person and personally would rather have cookies and cake for breakfast but because I know I will gain tons of weight— well that’s not an option!

When I first starting losing weight I strictly did a protein shake or smoothie in the morning. I tried so many different powder proteins, that I have actually donated some to the gym I go to! I learned very quickly to make everything my own and get creative. These 4 ingredients will change your protein shake and your life, just be mindful that some ingredients will increase your calories in your protein shake.

Add Peanut Butter Powder Add a scope of Peanut Butter Powder. 2 Tbsp of powder peanut butter is only 45 calories compared to your Jiffy which is 190 calories!

Add 1/2 cup of Vanilla Almond Milk- With every protein mixture it tells you to add water. They suggest water because adding other liquids like Almond milk will increase the calorie intake. This is true so cute the calorie in half by add 1/2 cup! The vanilla almond milk will add another taste!

Add Fruit- This will also increase the calorie intake but I am a big fan of adding fruit. Adding a half of banana makes it taste like a chocolate, banana milk shake!

Add Iced Coffee- Instead of the almond milk or water add the Iced coffee! I love the Starbucks Iced coffee and sometimes you just need a pick me up! Super delicious!

There are so many options you can add to your protein shake. Shake it up a little!

What do you add to your protein shake? I want to hear from you!

  • Since you’re a blogger, we would love you to participate in our #BloggersGetSocial community.
  • Stay in touch with your hosts on social media.
  • Leave a direct URL to your post (not your homepage).
  • Grab our Get It Together button to proudly display on your link party page!
