Getting to the gym is the first challenge, the second challenge is learning how to do exercises like planks.
After having my baby I had one of my friends tell me do a plank and see how long you can hold it for? I thought, what is a plank…. I didn’t want to ask so I “faked it” until I was corrected. Who knew that this very exercise is what would help strengthen my core after having my baby! Naturally, being pregnant does something to your stomach muscles and after the baby you have to really work hard at getting those stomach muscles back! Some people are not sure even what a plank looks like or even how to do a plank!
How To Do A Proper Plank
- Place your hands directly under your shoulders. The position should feel like your going to do a push up.
- Bend your elbows and put your weight on your forearms (not your hands)
- Your body should be in a straight line
- Stuck your belly button into your spine
- You should get as low to the ground as you can
- Hold this position
If you stick with this challenge you will strengthen your core muscles!

WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY IS NEVER ENDING……………
Not to get skinny but to get stronger. I remember there was a time when I first started this weight loss journey my ultimate goal was to get to 125 lbs. My goal was to fit into those jeans hiding in the back of my closet. After 2 kids in 3 years your body just doesn’t go back right to where it was. I remember saying to myself, I just want to be skinny again. I ate right, I worked out 5 times a week and I drank the amount of water I was suppose to. Pounds started to shed, my waist was smaller than a 28 and I was elated. I meal prepped every Sunday for the entire week and people started noticing how small I was getting. None of my work clothes fit and even my work out clothes got so big on me.
One day I was running on the treadmill and I looked around and noticed some women in my opinion that didn’t need to work out. That didn’t have any fat on their bodies and in my head I started thinking…..Why are they here? I mean it was motivation to see women take such pride in their health and bodies but really, running on the treadmill with the higher incline on! Now your just trying to make me look bad.
I remember the morning I stepped on the scale and I reached my goal weight! My first thoughts were I want wings & fries and then my thought was now that I hit my goal weight, whats next move for me? I want to feel stronger. Going to the gym and working out does not just make you feel stronger physically but it makes you feel stronger mentally. My goal is not just to maintain the weight I am now but to have more definition in my body. When I hit the gym, I leave all of my worries at the door and I put my game face on! I am learning that it doesn’t matter to much about what the scale says but more about how you feel about yourself. I continue to do this because one day I want some one to say to me, that I inspired their journey of a healthy life style.

What is the hardest day for most people Monday! Just to get to work on time or to get into the swing of things!! Here is a little motivation so you can sart out your week! Sometimes we make all of these goals and we always know what we want the end result to look like, but not sure what it takes to look that way! Get up, work out and take one day at a time! If you fall off don’t give up……Just keep pushing!
Being a mom of two sometimes I don’t get a chance to go to the gym. If my fiancé is not home then I usually stay home with the kids. Although, we do pay for daycare at the gym I would just prefer to keep them at home so I had to find work outs that I could do while home with the kiddos. Jump roping is so perfect for several different reasons– 1. it will tell you how out of shape you are LOL 2. It is such a great calorie burner 3. Tones your legs!
There is no excuse to getting a great work out in wherever you are at. If I can’t make it to the gym, I typically do this when the kids are asleep! #KEEPPUSHING
WORK OUT OF THE WEEK
- 20 seconds of jump rope
- 10 second of rest
- Do it again!
- Beginner: 3 sets
- Intermediate: 6 sets
- Advanced: 9 sets
I am doing a no carb challenge for two weeks and lets be honest, I probably eat all of my carbs for the day during breakfast. I don’t eat carbs for dinner so I found it difficult to think of something that I actually wanted to eat for breakfast that wasn’t on whole wheat bread or on a bagel! I came across a few pudding recipes but decided to make my own! This morning before I posted it I had it for breakfast and it gets you full very fast. I am sure that has a lot to do with the chia seeds because if you add chia seeds to anything it acts like a carb and gets you really full! This may be the trick to my carb challenge!
You will love this recipe if you are a Chia or Chocolate lover.
What you will need:
1 cup of coconut milk/ almond milk/ milk ( I used almond milk)
2 Tbsp cocoa powder
2 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp chia seeds
1 sliced banana
Count flakes to garnish on the top (optional)
Add almond milk (or whatever milk you are using), cocoa powder, honey and chia seeds in a bowl and mix well. Cover with a lid and let it sit in the refrigerator over night.
Arrange sliced bananas over it and SERVE!

Now I am not a fan of protein shakes. I have probably tried millions of protein shakes just to say I did and have hated all but probably 4. Honestly the only reason I haven’t hated all of them is because I have doctored the protein shake up by adding a banana or an extra scoop of something yummy but healthy. All of the protein shakes taste very chalky and just plain disgusting until I found this heaven on earth! I am already a big fan of anything Skinny Girl from the protein bars, to the alcohol so I thought I would give this a try. I mean I have already tried every other nasty protein shake known to man so why not!
First, lets talk about how sophisticated and ‘cool’ I felt after drinking this. The bottle is not only cute and I love anything cute but its very clean looking and you just feel super sophisticated! I am usually a chocolate kind of girl but I also love my ice cream so I thought I would give this a try.
Not only does it really taste like an ice cream but you honestly forget your even drinking a “protein shake”. Yes, something that is actually good for you. I was actually on my way from school drop off to the dentist and forgot to eat so I stop by my house ran inside and drank this on the way to my appointment. Like I said before I always throw a banana in the blender with the protein shake or a tsp of almond butter just to get over that chalky flavor but with this protein shake you don’t even have that problem because it’s so good!
If your on the go like me but know that you have to get something in your system this is such a great ‘go to’! This is sold at Walmart! I give this product 5 stars!!!!
New You, New Year….. Nope, New Year– Healthier Me!
September 1 was when I started this lifestyle change. I was almost 2 months out from having my baby girl and knew I needed to make a change and couldn’t blame it on the baby fat 2 years later. I signed up for a gym, tried every class they offered and found my niche! Since September 1, I have lost 17LBS even with the holidays that just passed us! I guess a little more extra incentive I have is trying to fit into my wedding dress before my big day March 19!
I am not a personal trainer or do I get paid to promote products. I am a mother of 2 that truly believes that you can’t raise healthy children if you aren’t healthy. How can I tell my kids to eat all of their veggies or to drink their water if I am not leading by example. As a parent I want to be around as long as possible and want to be the healthiest I can be; Mind, Body and Spirit. Not only do I believe in eating right and exercising right but I also believe in taking care of my mental health. I am not at where I want to be yet but it all takes time, so I am super excited about having my reader come with me on this journey!
My goal is to push you to be the healthiest you, while pushing myself. Yes, being a mom I know we are busy taking care of our family but we have to also learn to take care of us. I am a full time Marketing Director and a blogger on top of being a mom of 2, so I know you can always find time to get your exercise in!
